VATTAPPARA: A woman has been arrested in a case of cheating people of money and gold by saying that she would help them to get loans including Mudra loans from banks. Vattapara Police arrested Mini (43) of Revathi Bhawan, Vattappara Thekkumkonam.

She was arrested in the case of cheating 50 lakh rupees and 45 sovereigns of gold from several people. Mini extorted Rs 2 lakhs from Vettinadu natives Kiran, Arun, Razia and Suresh and Rs 4 lakhs from Mannanthala Mukkola native Abhaya Kumar and his friends, claiming that she would help them get loans from various banks. Arun, who got married eight months ago, committed suicide last week.

Mini also extorted Rs 12 lakh from Sam, a resident of Mannanthala Mukkola, on the pretext of selling a property in Vattapara owned by the accused.

According to Vattapara police, she was earlier arrested at Fort station in the case of making a seal, letter pad and notice in the name of a fake self-help group and collecting fees by offering loans for huge amounts. The accused was nabbed and remanded by a team comprising Vattapara CI Sreejith, SI Sunil Gopi, GSI Sunilkumar, CPOs Arvind and Sivalakshmi.
