NEW DELHI: Sanju Samson made his international debut in 2015 but is yet to establish himself as a regular presence across all formats of the game. Former Indian player Ashwin points out that being sidelined despite producing impressive performances takes a mental toll on the player. He further noted that the constant struggle to secure a permanent spot in the team—even after producing match-winning displays on major stages is a serious issue that mostly goes unaddressed.
“Sanju delivered excellent performances in the World Cup when other batters failed. However, Sanju might be wondering why he was sidelined immediately after the tours of Ireland and England. Sanju might feel that nobody fully understands his situation. His journey, which began in 2015, has never been easy.” Said Ashwin.
Despite maintaining excellent form in recent tournaments, Sanju's place in the team remains under scrutiny. The 'Player of the Tournament' at the 2026 T20 World Cup lost his spot in the playing XI following a few lacklustre performances.
There is also talk that Sanju might soon have to bid adieu to the squad, considering the impact created by boy wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the opening role. This predicament facing Sanju has sparked significant discussion among fans and the sports community.
