NEW DELHI: CBI has found serious lapses and violations in the government’s flagship housing project—the life mission. CBI investigation has revealed that Unitac is just a proxy agency used by the life mission agency to gather foreign donations. In the affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the agency has said that Unitac was used by the life mission to gather bribe money surpassing the provisions of the FCRA act and CAG audit.

The accused involved in the gold smuggling case has received bribe money in connection with the deal in life mission case. The officials of the life mission have contacted Sarith, the chief accused in gold smuggling case via e-mail. CBI has pointed out this as evidence for the linkages between gold smuggling and life mission scam in the affidavit filed before the court.

If 10 million dirhams was received on Life mission’s account, they may not have been able to complete the construction via calling for tender. The officials of the life mission tried to surpass that proceeding, by creating an agreement between Red Crescent and Unitac. The owner of the construction firm, Santhosh Eepan has also testified that he has given bribes to get the contract. In the affidavit, CBI has also revealed that Eeppan has bribed even the higher officials of life mission.

CBI has told the court that the investigation is in a preliminary stage, and what they have found out is only the tip of the iceberg. CBI has also sought the court’s nod to question more persons in connection with the case including higher officials of life mission. CBI has also testified in the Supreme Court that the investigation is not politically motivated.
