Maradu flats: Case registered against builders; power supply to be disconnected by tomorrow

KOCHI: In a recent development, a case has been registered against the builders of the controversial flats in Maradu. According to reports, the builders have been charged with fraud as per the instruction from the government. Earlier, the government had taken the decision to file a criminal case against the builders. It is learnt that the government is planning to charge compensation money from the builders which will be handed over to the flat residents.


The government has already begun procedures regarding demolition of the flats. Sources said that the demolition work will begin by the first week of October and the government is taking special care to ensure that there will not be any environmental impacts due to the demolition works. Meanwhile, KSEB officials have informed that power supply to the flats will be disconnected by tomorrow. Officials have also pasted a notice regarding this on all the controversial flats.

Kerala Water Authority too has announced that the water supply to the apartments will be disconnected by Friday. Earlier, the Supreme Court had heavily criticized the government for not carrying out its order regarding demolition of the flats. Following this, the government intensified its effort to carry out the demolition.
