suicide

KUTTANAD: Employee of an IT company in Ernakulam Infopark committed suicide after she lost her job due to lockdown. Veena Joseph (25), daughter of PJ Joseph of Illikkallam Puthenparambil in Kavalam Panchayat, was found hanging inside her house.

Veena ate dinner with family on Wednesday and went to sleep. But as she was getting late than usual the next morning, Veena's parents checked the room and found her hanging.

Veena was working at Wipro in Ernakulam Infopark for the past two years. After the declaration of lockdown, she had to return home and quarantine. As she was preparing to re-enter the job, her colleague informed about the layoff. It is learnt that the company asked her to look for another job. As per police assumption, the anguish due to this was the cause of suicide.

After postmortem at Alappuzha Medical College, the corpse was buried at Kavalam North St Joseph Church cemetery.
