Drop in passengers in Gulf sector, airlines slash ticket prices

airlines-

MALAPPURAM: Airlines have slashed ticket prices to Kerala due to the drop in passengers in the Gulf sector due to Covid.

With the strengthening of the RTPCR and quarantine conditions, only the needy return home. Private airlines are now charging the lowest fares in recent times. The central government has decided to increase international services by Rs 879 from today. The increase will be in airport security rates. This increase will not adversely affect passengers as airlines have reduced ticket prices as passengers have declined. A Dubai-Kozhikode ticket on Air India Express will cost Rs 6,500 which is usually Rs 30,000 during the season. Abu Dhabi - Kozhikode: 11,500, Doha - Kozhikode: 10,000, Kuwait - Kozhikode: 15,000. Similar rates are available for Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumbassery and Kannur airports.

On normal private flights, you have to pay around Rs 1,000 more than Air India. Currently, many routes are cheaper than Air India. On the Dubai-Kozhikode route, Indigo will charge Rs 5,930, Fly Dubai Rs 7,000 and SpiceJet Rs 6,000. There's only a small increase from February. At the same time, more than Rs 2,000 has to be paid from Kerala to the Gulf. This is because the airlines made this an opportunity due to the rising cases in Kerala and the returnees' fear that the Gulf countries will tighten the conditions. Fares on the Kozhikode-Dubai route range from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.
