Covid testing in jails begins, 400 inmates test negative

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Covid testing was started in the jails under the leadership of the health department. The jail department officials informed that the vaccination will start soon. Kerala Kaumudi had reported yesterday that no action has been taken to conduct testing and vaccinations in jails.

All the 400 inmates of Poojappura Central Jail who underwent antigen test yesterday are negative. The remaining 600 prisoners will be tested in the coming days. Vaccination will begin next week, officials said. Testing will begin in other jails in the coming days. In the early stages of Covid, the virus was widespread in prisons. The spread was brought under control with the imposition of strict restrictions. Currently, there are restrictions, including a visit ban.
