'Jolly is not a serial killer, she should not be given such benefit'; criminologist explains why

jolly

Jolly, the main accused in the sensational multiple murder at Koodathayi, has been referred to as a serial killer by many. However, famous criminologist James Vadakkanchery does not agree with this. He said that Jolly should not be called a serial killer despite her committing a number of murders across such a long time.

He says, " The term 'serial killer' has a definition. In the case of a serial killer, the person commits murders just because he likes doing it. There will not be any other motives behind such murders. People like Ripper Chandran and Raman Raghav come under this category as they had murdered people who were lying asleep on the streets. In the case of Jolly, all those who were murdered by her had posed some threat to her in one way or the other. All six murders were committed after much planning and calculation. Moreover, she was intelligent enough to choose the appropriate time for each murder. This is over smartness and not a mental disorder like that of a serial killer. She did the murders just like playing a game of carrom. Therefore, we must not give her the benefit of mental illness by calling her a serial killer. Instead, Jolly must be called a psychopath as she has not displayed any sort of remorse for committing the crimes."
