Cyclone Fani in Tamil Nadu, heavy rains likely to hit Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has asserted that a low pressure forming on the south east of Sri Lanka is likely to reach on the Tamil Nadu coast as a cyclone. However, there is a possibility of heavy rains and winds on April 29, 30 and May 1st in Kerala. There will be heavy rains in isolated places.

If the low pressure turns into cyclone then it will be called Fani, named by Bangladesh. Cyclone Ockhi was also named by Bangladesh.

Fishing is banned near equator in Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Tamil Nadu shore from April 27. Fishermen have been asked to reach the nearest shore by 12 am on April 27.

There are chances for the waves to rise up to a height of 1.5 metre to 2.2 metres at 11.30 pm tonight. The sea conditions are also expected to become choppy.

The speed of the wind will be 30-40 kilometres per hour on Thursday when the low pressure is formed. By April 28, it will be 80-90 kilometer per hour. On the coast of Tamil Nadu, it will be 40-50 kilometer per hour.
