KOCHI: Director Aashiq Abu on Sunday came up with his explanation regarding the controversy surrounding Karuna, a music festival organised by the Kochi Music Foundation (KMF) in Ernakulam in November last year. Posting the image of a cheque of Rs 6,22,000 that was handed over to the CM's distress relief fund, Aashiq stated on his Facebook page that the fest was not conducted to collect funds for disaster relief.

According to Aashiq Abu, the decision to hand over the money to the relief fund was taken by the foundation. He also went on to question Hibi Eden MP for criticizing the event by referring to it as deceit. "On what basis are you claiming that an event entirely funded by the foundation, which did not use any government fund, to be a deceit? We believe that we have the right to know that and hope you will soon come up with proper evidence to support your claim', his post read.
